Lumber Cart 2.0

The sheer number and styles of lumber carts that are out there are ridiculous. For me, there just wasn’t one single solution or style that I liked. Bob Claggett at I Like to Make Stuff made a lumber cart that was more to my liking than a lot of others I’d seen. It was a little too big for my shop, though, but that could be easily changed. Then, I happened upon another lumber cart by Marie at DIY Montreal. The size of her lumber cart was more to my liking, and had some storage features that Bob’s did not. After seeing both of these, it got me to thinking a bit and I came up with a design that incorporated the parts of both that I liked into one. Behold, the lumber cart 2.0.

When I designed this cart, I knew I was going to add another set of casters (a total of six) to help carry the weight better. The panel-cutting cart was simply too heavy to move around with just four casters. The height of that monstrosity was just a bit much. Lumber cart 2.0 was a much more manageable height with which to work, not to mention it had much better storage options. I also took advantage of the side of the cart to hang my combination wrenches with the use of a French cleat.

***RETIRED: February 2020***

This most recent version of a lumber cart has now been retired and completely disassembled. I no longer have desires to keep large off-cuts of plywood in the workshop, plus I don’t have the space for them due continued layout changes. For storage of lumber, I opted to build the Scrapwood Storage Cabinet, as well as utilize some wall-mounted storage options.
